BODEGA BAY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man who was fleeing a park ranger died after plunging about 75 feet down an oceanside cliff in Northern California.

California Highway Patrol Officer Jon Sloat said Monday the 46-year-old man was ejected from a Ford Ranger pickup truck and died about five miles north of Bodega Bay.

Sloat said the man refused to stop for a State Parks ranger who tried to pull him over Sunday night for several mechanical violations and drove off Highway 1 at a curve near Portuguese Beach. The truck hit a milepost marker, continued across the shoulder and fell to the beach below.

The man has not been identified.
