Scientists say a dead whale found floating in the Oakland Estuary was struck by a ship.
The Marine Mammal Center says a necropsy was performed Friday on the whale, which was found Wednesday in Alameda.
The Sausalito-based group says the 52-foot-long fin whale was an immature male that died of blunt force trauma caused by colliding with a ship.
Fourteen scientists who examined the carcass at Angel Island State Park in San Francisco Bay found broken and dislocated ribs and hemorrhaging.
Coast Guard officials had said the whale might have been dragged into the bay from the ocean by a container ship.
