Chico Police are investigating the discovery of a dead body in Sycamore Pool early this morning. Authorities got the call around 1:00 a.m. after people swimming in the pool told police they stepped on what they thought was a body. When officers arrived on scene they were able to spot the body of a man at the bottom of the pool. One of officers, along with a medic, jumped in the water to pull the man out. Police say the man smelled of alcohol. They are still trying to determine whether that played a factor in his death.
Sgt. James Fryar says, "We want to warn people that it's dark out here and the water's not all that cold anymore, and if you mix water with alcohol and/or drugs that's a dangerous situation where bad things can happen."
Police have not released the man's identity, but say he is a white man in his early to mid 20's. He is 5'10", weighing around 160 lbs. with brown hair and a goatee. It is still unclear how long the body was in the pool, and police are still trying to determine the cause of death. Police say there were no visible signs of trauma or foul play and are ruling the incident as an accidental drowning. Anyone with information is asked to call the Chico Police Department.
