LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Police have arrested a Long Beach man who got into two shootouts with officers and led them on a car chase while his infant son was in the vehicle.
A police statement said the 5-month-old boy, who was found in the backseat at the end of early Saturday's chase, was not injured.
Police said the violence began when 22-year-old Joseph Gonzales took his son during a domestic dispute and left the home he shares with the child's mother and other relatives.
While officers investigated, police said Gonzales called home and threatened to harm the baby and use him as a shield against police.
They said he fired shots at officers twice and led them on a chase that ended in San Pedro. One officer was injured by shattered glass.
