The Shasta County District Attorney's Office said Friday no charges will be filed against Shasta High School head football coach Aaron Gingery.

Gingery was accused of physically abusing a player during practice on September 29. According to Redding police the incident was reported to school administrators by staff member who witnessed the alleged abuse.

Redding police conducted interviews with students, coaches and staff members as well as Gingery and submitted to the Shasta County District Attorney's Office Tuesday.

The DA's office said the incident is most appropriately dealt with by the school board's disciplinary process.

"After completing further investigation and reviewing all the submitted evidence, the District Attorney has determined that Mr. Gingery's conduct does not rise to a level requiring the involvement of the criminal justice system. The evidence does not support the conclusion that Gingery intentionally struck the student in his groin."

Gingery was suspended from his teaching and coaching position the following day and remains on paid administrative leave.
