A Chico State University student could face serious charges after nearly $10,000 disappeared from the Finance Club under his watch as president.
According to university officials, John Saunders, 44, was elected president of the club in 2014. While in charge, they say he moved the club account, used mostly as an investment tool for students, from a brokerage account to a bank account under his control.
The university says it was the students, and the faculty advisor who noticed the change.
Saunders is under investigation by campus police, and once complete, the case will be turned over to the Butte County District Attorney's Office. The university says Saunders is a senior, and is no longer a member of the Finance Club.
