Chico State President Paul Zingg is expected to be away from campus for a period of time as he recovers from heart bypass surgery, school officials announced Wednesday.

Zingg underwent surgery Sunday at Enloe Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery, but it is unknown when he will be able to return to work.

School officials say Dr. Rollin Richmond, who previously served as president of Humboldt State University, will serve as the acting president of California State University Chico.

Chancellor Timothy White says Richmond's familiarity with the region should make for a seamless transition.
