Chico State's annual "Diversion Excursion" program diverted more than 17 tons of waste from the local landfill.
University officials say that throughout the week of May 12th more than 100 students, staff and faculty volunteered to collect donations from 16-hundred students as they moved out of campus housing for the summer.
This marked the 14th year for the event, which set a new record this year by donating 34,796 pounds of unwanted furniture and other goods to local non profits.
265 computers were donated to the nonprofit "computers for classrooms" ... more than 42 hundred pounds of food went to the Jesus Center and Esplanade House ... and 60 pounds of bike parts went to a local scrap metal business.
