FRENCH CAMP, Calif. (AP) - Four people were killed after a driver fleeing a traffic stop in central California led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a rollover crash.
The San Joaquin Sheriff's Department says a deputy tried to pull over the driver of a Chevrolet Blazer who was suspected of drunken driving around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
The driver sped away, leading police on a brief chase reaching speeds of 100 mph. It ended when the SUV rolled over multiple times about 50 miles south of Sacramento.
The department says the driver and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth passenger died at a nearby hospital.
The identities of the victims have not been publicly released pending notification of their families. The department and California Highway Patrol are investigating.
