The Covered California bus made stops in three North State cities today, including Yuba City, then Chico, and finally Redding.
In Chico, Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee joined Butte 2-1-1 and California Health Collaborative to promote open enrollment, which began three days ago and ends February 15th.
Lee says three million Californians are still eligible for Covered California or Medical, including 150,000 in the North State.
He says last year's enrollment broke all expectations, but this year's challenge is going after those who think health insurance isn't for them, including college students.
"Many people think it's out of reach, I just can't afford it. We need to get the message out that what are often called the young invincible aren't the young and stupid," Lee told Action News Now. "They recognize they're an accident away from actually having a bigger debt than what they're going to graduate from college with, so that's the key message we need to get out."
California Health Collaborative navigators are now helping people enroll, free of charge.
