Butte County sheriff's deputies arrested an Oroville man and his wife Wednesday, alleging that their treatment of the man's mother caused her death in 2013.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, the lack of care 68-year-old Deanna Schorovsky received from her son Gavin Schorovsky, 42, and his wife Sandy Schorovsky, directly contributed to her death.

Feather River Hospital medical staff called the sheriff's office on July 17, 2013 to report that Deanna Schorovsky, who had been recently admitted, was severely malnourished. She had several wounds that were in various stages of decomposition and part of her spine was exposed.

Deanna died on July 31, 2013 and an autopsy determined her death was directly related to a lack of care.

In the year and a half following Deanna's death, sheriff's investigators consulted with medical professionals and secured an arrest warrant for Gavin and Sandy Schorovsky.

Gavin and Sandy were arrested at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sandy Schorovsky will be charged with one count of 2nd degree murder while Gavin Schorovsky will be charged with Elder Abuse Causing Death.
