County officials have approved the hiring of a private security firm for the Oroville Transit Center after recent vandalism and drug activity.
The Butte County Association of Governments Board of Directors approved spending $76,000 for a security presence at the Spencer Avenue bus center.
Since the facility opened in 2011 there have been several reports of riders being sexually harassed, significant drug activity on the property and vandalism forcing the closure of restrooms consistently.
Officials installed security cameras when the vandalism began, but the vandalism and drug activity has stayed.
The new security firm is expected to start this week.
