Tehama County sheriff's officials say a Cottonwood woman has been arrested for allegedly shooting her tenant in the leg while he was destroying her marijuana plants.

According to the sheriff's office the suspect, 61-year-old Vanessa Pratt said her tenant, 42-year-old Jonathan Arnold, showed up Sunday morning and began banging on doors, asking to be let inside.

Pratt told investigators she placed all of Arnold's belongings outside the previous night because he had been very intoxicated.

Pratt was reportedly scared Arnold would smash the glass sliding door, so she armed herself with a handgun. Arnold then began to walk away, destroying some on-property marijuana plants in the process and Pratt reportedly accidentally fired five rounds at Arnold's legs.

Pratt was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and has been hooked into the Tehama County Jail.
