Cottonwood vegetation fire started by lawn mower

Fire crews have fully contained at 13-acre fire that threatened homes near the intersection of Gas Point Road and Majestic Oak Circle in Cottonwood Friday.

The fire was reported at 12:49 p.m. and crews had the blaze 100 percent contained just after 1:40 p.m.

Original reports indicated that area homes may at risk, but crews put the fire out before any structures were damaged. No injuries were reported.

Traffic was diverted at Majestic Oak Circle at Gas Point Road and at W. Anderson Road while firefighters worked to contain the fire.

Fire officials say the fire was started by a lawn mower and during dry summer conditions, people should mow their lawns before 10:00 a.m.
