Cottonwood Shooting leads to Arrest

Four people are behind bars after a shooting in Tehama County on Friday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Tyler Smith, 19, arrived at the Bowman Fire Station in Cottonwood with a gunshot wound to the leg Friday afternoon.

Smith told investigators, he went to a unknown location on Luce Griswold to buy marijuana with two of his friends.

During the drug deal, William Foster, 44, shot Smith with a handgun, Smith immediately left the area to seek medical attention, leaving Mike Chaudhry, 19 and the 17-year-old juvenile behind.

Sheriff Deputies arrived on scene, Foster and the three other suspects, Zachary Thorton, 18, Derek Hale, 19 and Garrett Lenardo, 32, fled the scene with Chaudhry.

The four suspects kidnapped the 19 year old and was forcing him to pay a ransom for his own release.

Chaudhry was dropped off in the Shasta County area, he was unharmed.

The four suspects were located by deputies and were booked into the Tehama County Jail.

All four men are charged with kidnapping and robbery, and one is charged with attempted murder.
