A man is in custody after he fired several gunshots outside of his mobile home Saturday night in Cottonwood.

Shasta County Sheriffs responded to a distress call at the 3000 block of David Way. Once on scene, investigators were told that the suspect was inside the home firing rounds out of his bedroom window, according to a Shasta County Sheriff news release.

Sheriffs identified the man in the home as David Lightfoot. Initial attempts to bring the suspect out of the home were unsuccessful. Sheriff’s deputies, along with members from the Redding Police Department, Anderson Police Department, California Highway Patrol and Shasta County Probation established a perimeter around the location. Family members of the suspect told investigators that the suspect said he would shoot at arriving officers and also made suicidal statements.

Shasta County Hostage teams negotiated with the suspect for approximately 30 minutes before convincing him to put down his weapon and exit the home. Once outside the home, the suspect was uncooperative, was tazed and taken into custody.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained prior to the incident and transported to the Shasta County Jail on weapons charges.
