Corrections Officer Killed in Hwy 99 Crash Identified

UPDATE (1:30 p.m.)- The Butte County Sheriff's Department has released the name of the corrections officer killed in the accident this morning. He has been identified as 48-year-old Robert Jackson. Jackson had been with the department since 2007. he leaves behind a loving wife and family who have been notified of his death.

UPDATE (11:40 a.m.)- We have just learned the man who was killed on Hwy 99 this morning was an off duty corrections officer for the Butte County Jail. His name is still being withheld at this time.

UPDATE: A man is confirmed dead after a traffic accident involving a big rig and another vehicle on Highway 99 near Biggs. The accident happened around 6am Friday on Highway 99 north of Biggs East Highway when the driver of a Ford F250 pick up was merging onto southbound Highway 99 from Rio Bonito Road. The driver did not see the big rig and continued merging, leading to the accident. The collision sent the big rig off of the roadway with major damage. The driver of the big rig was not hurt. Right now, the CHP reports the accident is blocking all lanes and traffic is being diverted. 99 is closed northbound at East Biggs Highway and southbound at East Hamilton. There is no estimated time of when lanes will be reopening.
