A Tehama County woman who allegedly threatened her 9-year-old daughter at knife point was arrested after a two hour standoff in Corning early Monday morning.

The sheriff’s office responded to a hostage situation on Stagecoach Road in Rancho Tehama around 3:15 a.m. Dispatchers told authorities 30-year-old Samantha Anne Elliot was holding her 9-year-old-daughter at knife point inside the house.

Deputies attempted to negotiate with Elliot, who was holding in a bedroom holding a steak knife to the throat of her daughter.

Negotiations went on unsuccessfully for about two hours, and Elliot was eventually shot with a non-lethal weapon, and the girl was rescued.

Medics examined the girl and found some lacerations to her hand and leg, believed to have been caused by Elliot. The injuries were not considered serious and the girl was released into her father’s custody.

Elliot was taken to a local hospital and then booked into the Tehama County Jail.
