Corning Man Transported to Hospital After Surviving Assault With a Deadly Weapon

At around 1:33 a.m. this morning, Corning Police Officers were dispatched to he 1100 block of Toomes Avenue in Corning for a report of a possible stabbing. Officers arrived on scene and located 27-year-old Sergio Meza laying near the east roadway edge of Toomes Avenue. Meza had two visible stab wounds, one to his right forearm and one to his upper leg.

Meza told police he was walking northbound on Toomes Avenue when he was approached by two male suspects near Scott Avenue. A verbal argument unfolded and one of the suspects began chasing Meza southbound on Toomes Avenue. The suspect reportedly brandished a knife and stabbed Meza twice.

A medical unit arrived on scene and transported Meza to St. Elizabeth's Community Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
