Corning man killed in fiery crash identified

The Corning man killed in a fiery crash involving a big rig on Interstate 5 near Elder Creek has been identified as 33-year-old Jason Baugher.

The crash happened just after 2:50 p.m. Sunday between Red Bluff and Corning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Baugher was driving in a Chevy northbound on I-5, south of Chard Avenue when he veered into the left lane, crossing the center median and directly into oncoming southbound traffic.

Baugher hit the tractor trailer sending both vehicles into flames, traffic in the area immediately slowed to a stop, so firefighters could extinguish the blaze.

The big rig driver was able to escape by busting out the front windshield of his truck. He suffered second degree burns to his arms and was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Red Bluff.
