A Corning man has died after he was severely burned in an apartment fire Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, who has been identified by his sister as 58-year-old Max Lee Crick, died after being transported to the U.C. Davis Burn Center.

Authorities responded to the fire around 4 p.m. at 1515 Highway 99 West when a neighbor spotted an orange light inside a window and noticed that Crick was actually on fire. He tells Action News Now that he then broke the window and door in an attempt to bring the man out.

The fire was contained to the one apartment. The cause is still under investigation, and Corning Police Department investigators were back on the scene Thursday morning.
