A Corning man is behind bars after police say he tried to kidnap a teenager outside of Vina Elementary School.

It happened last Tuesday as the 18-year-old the woman, who works at the school, was walking through the school's parking lot. Tehama County Sheriffs Investigators say 41-year-old Andres Sanchez asked the woman if she wanted to buy vegetables out of the back of his SUV and when she declined, he tried to pull her into his car. The victim was able to get away.

Yesterday, Sanchez's SUV was spotted at a gas station in Chico on the corner of East Avenue and Esplanade and he was arrested. He is being held in the Tehama County jail on $50,000 bail.
