A vehicle crash near Corning leaves one teenage girl dead, another critically injured. It happened just before seven Tuesday night on Columbia Avenue, just north of South Avenue. CHP investigators say two girls, believed to be Corning High School students, were traveling south on Columbia at a high rate of speed. There is a bump in the road which kids reportedly use to launch their vehicles into the air. Investigators say that appears to be what happened in this incident. The young driver lost control after landing, side-swiping a power pole, then smashing into the tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was taken to the hospital with major injuries. The names of the girls have not been released.
