A Corning couple accused of taking thousands of dollars in public assistance have been convicted of felony fraud charges and sentenced to jail, the Tehama County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.

David Leroy Brown, 43, and Sherry Ann Brown, 37, were sentenced Thursday to 180 days in jail and ordered to pay $22,023 in restitution.

The convictions were the result of an ongoing investigation by District Attorney Investigators, who were able to determine that the Browns provided fraudulent information about income they received while on welfare. It was determined that they received $22,023 that they were not entitled to receive.
