City council members in Corning will have to make some tough financial decisions this month to make up for a budget shortfall of $300,000. The council will be presented with three options Tuesday night. One of the options has the fire chief worried because it eliminates the departmen's dispatch center. The city has to have a budget finalized by July. The fire chief says taking away the dispatch center will be bad for public safety.
"Corning Fire has had their own dispatch for over 60 years, our dispatchers are members of the community and they are members of the volunteer fire department." says Fire Chief Martin Spannaus.
Tuesday nights city council meeting will be the preliminary meeting regarding the budget options. Then June 23rd city staff will compile the complete budget for next fiscal year which begins July 1st.
