Big news for one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of the Northern Section.

Former Chico Panther Nahshon Garrett, a two-time California State Champion and a current Cornell University senior, advanced in the championship bracket of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Madison Square Garden today.

Garrett, the top-seeded wrestler at 133 pounds, earned a 9-2 decision over Lehigh's Mason Beckman in his first round match to tie Cam Simaz for second place on the program's career wins list with 145. In his second-round match, Garrett pinned Campbell's Nathan Kraisser in one minute, 39 seconds to advance to the quarterfinals.

Garrett is wrestling in his fourth NCAA Championships. As a freshman, he was runner-up. As a sophomore, he placed third. Last year he was fifth! Safe to say he knows what's in front of him as he tries to end his collegiate career with a bang!

If you'd like to watch the Quarterfinals Friday, coverage begins at 8:00 a.m. on ESPNU. The semifinals get underway at 8:00 p.m.
