Officials from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced Wednesday that they will conducting several controlled burns over the course of the rest of the week.
The burns will take place at two locations, the Old Shasta Transfer Station which is approximately a quarter-mile northwest of Eureka Way at Middle Creek Road. The other location is Upper Sacramento Ditch Trail located at the end of Walker Mine Road. Each burn site is roughly equivalent to 5 acres in size.
Firefighters will ignite piles at two designated locations around 9 a.m. Thursday and burn until 4:30 p.m. each day. Officials said it could take several days to fully consume all the material.
Officials said the piles to be burned consist of mostly plant matter and will likely not affect individuals with sensitivity to smoke. Officials said they planned the burns to coincide with rain and wind increases so the smoke will be kept to a minimum.
