Firefighters continued to get the upper hand overnight on a 900-acre wildfire that has forced evacuations near Lake Oroville.

The so-called Lumpkin Fire burning between Feather Falls and Forbestown was 40 percent contained Wednesday morning after crews were aided by favorable weather conditions Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Homes in the area of Ponderosa Way between Lower Forbestown Road and the Ponderosa Reservoir and Broken Springs Road remain under an immediate evacuation order, while an evacuation warning remains in effect for homes located in the areas of Forebstown Road to New York flats, and Lumpkin Road to the Enterprise Boat Launch.

The fire was sparked Friday afternoon, and Cal Fire officials say eight firefighters have suffered non-life-threatening injuries while battling the blaze in extreme heat a rugged terrain.

No structures have been damage and the cause is under investigation.
