The controversy has simmered down, the land deal is done and the Turtle Bay hotel six years in the making is about to become a reality.
Construction on a four star, $17 million Sheraton, on 14 acres of land next to Turtle Bay will begin next Tuesday, September 29.
The project has been surrounded by controversy since its inception.
The McConnell Foundation bought the land in 2014 from the City of Redding, for about $600,000.
Members of a local construction trade council protested the transaction, saying the land was purchased at an unfair price, and construction crews were entitled to their prevailing wages.
Despite the strong opposition, Redding voters passed Measure B last November, allowing the transaction to go through. The sale closed escrow last month.
The project is expected to bring dozens of construction jobs to the area, as well as more money to the city and Turtle Bay.
