Today is the last day travelers can catch a commercial flight out of Chico, meaning Chico residents traveling for the holidays will have to find other accommodations.
The last flight will take off from Chico at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The decision to cancel commercial services in Chico was announced by SkyWest Airlines in August. SkyWest officials cited poor performance in the market as the reason for the discontinuation of service.
The move leaves Butte County without commercial flights, and the airports future in limbo. The airports website says the city is continuing its efforts to obtain another air carrier to provide service, but at this time there are no prospects. One major obstacle appears to be Chico's short runway.
