Sutter County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the person who died in a fatal accident at the intersection of Highway 99 and O’Banion Road.
57-year-old Juana Gutierrez, a Colusa resident died at the scene after a 2002 Ford Escape entered the intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol press release.
The crash was reported just after 4:00p.m. near Yuba City.
According to the press release, the Ford Escape was traveling east on O’Banion road approaching the intersection, that is when the driver allegedly ran the stop sign hitting a 2004 Chevy Impala with three passengers inside the car.
The Impala did not have time to apply the brakes slamming into the Escape.
Both vehicles blocked the northbound lanes of Highway 99.
The driver of the Ford Escape had to be air lifted to a local hospital, two passengers from the Impala was transported by ambulance.
CHP reduced traffic to one lane while crews cleared the scene.
It’s unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in this collision as it is still under investigation at this time.
