A Shasta County Judge sentenced Cody Nash to life in prison without parole today and ordered him to pay $19,741.34 in restitution.

During today’s sentencing Bob Watson wrote an emotional victim statement read by his therapist, in which he wished Nash “a grand life in hell”. Watson’s statement also expressed the fact that even though Nash’s attack didn’t take his life, it took away his ability to live his life. He said he is completely disabled and can no longer do anything on his own.

Nash, 32, of Hillsboro, Ore., fatally stabbed his aunt Candace Watson and attacked Bob Watson in their Boston Avenue home on June 8, 2012.

During the trial Nash took the stand in his own defense and admitted that he used a butcher knife to cut his aunt’s throat two times. The defense focused on Nash’s mental state, saying he wanted to kill himself, and a psychiatrist testified Nash is a schizophrenic.
