Cody Nash has been found guilty of first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon for the murder of his aunt in Redding.
The trial lasted over two weeks, but the Shasta County jury returned the guilty verdict after just half a day of deliberation.
Nash, 32, of Hillsboro, Ore., fatally stabbed his aunt Candace Watson and attacked Bob Watson in their Boston Avenue home on June 8, 2012.
During the trial Nash took the stand in his own defense and admitted that he used a butcher knife to cut his aunt’s throat two times. The defense focused on Nash’s mental state, saying he wanted to kill himself, and a psychiatrist testified Nash is a schizophrenic.
Nash will be sentenced on April 21 at 2:00 p.m.
