The Butte County Board of Supervisors were given an update on the enforcement of ‘Measure A’ Tuesday.
The measure approved by voters last year, restricts the size of medical marijuana growing areas.
According to county code enforcement, 1,262 cases have been investigated this year, resulting in more than 500 citations and amounting to more than $1 million in fines. However, only $85,090 have been collected.
The numbers are up significantly from a year ago, when only 178 investigations were conducted.
Officials believe they’re looking into more complaints this year because residents have the opportunity to submit complaints anonymously.
On Tuesday afternoon, code enforcement officers visited 29 residences in Bangor, Honcut, and Palermo. They issued 19 citations, and will return to those residences in 72 hours to check for compliance.
