Clover Fire : 7,400 Acres, 80 Structures Destroyed, 30 Damaged

(UPDATE) 10:45 a.m.- Cal Fire has now reported 80 structures have been destroyed, 30 structures damaged.

(UPDATE) 5:30 a.m.- As of 5:30 a.m., the Clover Fire is still burning at 7,400 acres with 40% containment. Dozer lines are currently being built on the south end of the fire, and officials have confidence they can gain more containment on the fire’s western edge today. Cal Fire did confirm 30 structures have been damaged or destroyed. PG&E’s Paul Moreno has stated power remains out for nearly 360 customers in the area, which is an improvement from 1,370 from last night.

The Clover Fire began around 12:30 p.m. in the Igo/Happy Valley area of Shasta County yesterday afternoon. It was initially reported at 500 acres. Between 12:30 and 3 p.m., the fire more than doubled in size. Since then, the blaze has continued its southwestern spread, engulfing vegetation and damaging or destroying several structures. The exact number of which Cal Fire has yet to officially confirm, including how many of them were residences.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Department has issued the following evacuations and hard road closures:

Current evacuations are at the following locations: South Cloverdale Road to Oak Street; Oak Street to Palm Avenue; South Black Pine Road.

Current hard closures are at the following locations: Palm Avenue and Olive Street; Placer Road at Platina Road; Placer Road at Cloverdale Road; Cloverdale Road at Hawthorne Avenue; Clear Creek Road at Honeybee Road and Black Pine Road at Gas Point Road.

Cal Fire also advised the Sheriff's Office they should prompt evacuations of all homes, Igo Ono Elementary School, and stores north of Clear Creek.

A shelter has been established at the First Baptist Church in Cottonwood at 3320 Brush St.

There are currently over 340 Cal Fire personnel trying everything they can to gain the upper hand. That number includes 32 engines, 10 helicopters, six tankers, 15 Air Attack aircraft, and the big DC-10 Jet Air Tanker.
