The final weekend closure of a major Hwy 99 entrance in Chico is scheduled to begin Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. as Caltrans crews commence the last round of ramp reconstruction. The entrance is scheduled to reopen by 7 a.m. Monday morning.
Drivers can expect the number of southbound lanes on Hwy 99 to be reduced from two lanes to one around the construction area. The lane reduction will begin 8 p.m. Friday. Over the weekend motorists will be directed northbound on Hwy 99 to the Cohasset Road exit and then to the southbound on-ramp to get back onto Hwy 99. The southbound exit to East 1st Avenue will remain open.
The work is part of a $37.9 million project by Caltrans and the Butte County Association of Governments to construct new auxiliary lanes and sound walls on Hwy 99 between East 1st Avenue and the Hwy 32 junction. Completion of the project is expected sometime in 2014.
Caltrans will issue updates on Twitter @D3PIO and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict 3 if conditions or closure information changes.
