An ordinance aimed at keeping homeless people from camping out in front of businesses in downtown Chico is expected to be a hot topic at Tuesday's city council meeting.
The Chico city council is scheduled to begin discussing ideas to help clean up Downtown Chico including a sit and lie ordinance that would prohibit people from sitting or lying on sidewalks during certain hours.
The idea came about as part of the Clean and Safe Chico movement backed by the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Chico Business Association.
The sit and lie ordinance was researched by the city attorney after initial discussions as a way to keep people from blocking access to area businesses.
