The Redding City Council has approved a plan to equip Redding Police Officers with body cameras.

Council members voted unanimously Wednesday night to have Chief Paoletti spend $250,000 on the cameras.

The money is coming from one-time use funds of seized crime money, which will also pay for the storage system the recordings will be entered into.

Officers will wear the cameras at all times and record all their interactions with the public. Each camera will cost nearly $800. The Redding Police Department has 98 sworn police officers.
