Two kids with whooping cough have been pulled out of Citrus Elementary School.

The Butte County Health Department said 96% of Citrus Kindergarteners were vaccinated for whooping cough last year.

That's above the county average, which was around 90%.

Rose Lippincott's daughter goes to Citrus.

She has a severe illness and weak immune system, so the family has to be extra cautious.

“We've been cautious, and keeping her away from people coughing, or sick, or any signs of an illness because of her condition,” Lippincott said.

Overall, Butte County has seen fewer whooping cough cases, going from 32 in 2010 but just 3 in 2012.

The Health Department also said they don’t think this hasn’t spread to other schools, but that is a possibility.
