Christmas tree permits go on sale Saturday

Christmas tree cutting permits go on sale Saturday in the Lassen and Mendocino national forests.

Permits are available for purchase for $10 in person at Forest Service offices through Tuesday, December 23 or by mail.

Officials ask that people check current Forest fire closure areas in case your annual tree cutting spot is within the closure, and always remember to be prepared for sudden weather changes and colder conditions in higher elevations.

Although the permits run through December 23, it is recommended that people cut trees early in the season, before the higher elevations become snowbound.
