An Anderson couple woke up early Thursday morning to find an intruder crawling around their home, and it wasn't Santa Claus.

Shasta County sheriff's deputies arrested 37-year-old Jason William Hamilton after he allegedly broke into a home in Anderson on Dersch Road around 2:15 a.m. Thursday.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, the couple living at the home awoke to sounds coming from their hallway. The male resident armed himself with a hand gun and confronted Hamilton, who was wearing a long green jacket and crawling on his hands and knees in the bathroom.

The male resident held Hamilton at gun point while his wife called 911. While deputies responded, Hamilton continued to crawl towards the front of the home, eventually reaching the front door and running away northbound.

When deputies arrived they released K-9 Larus, who was able to track Hamilton's scent to some brush nearly a mile away. Hamilton was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail.
