California Highway Patrol officials said 35-year old officer Nathan Taylor who was struck Saturday near Donnor Summit has died.

The officer who was directing traffic on interstate 80 has died after being struck by an s-u-v near Truckee.

Taylor was directing traffic in the westbound lanes when the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder lost control and struck him knocking him several feet in the air before he landed face down in a median.

The weather was so bad the officer had to be taken to a hospital in Reno by ambulance instead of helicopter.

Taylor passed on Sunday night after undergoing surgery.

The six-year veteran was said to be surrounded by his wife, three young sons and his CHP family.
