At about 1:15 a.m. California Highway Patrol officers were conducting a traffic stop south of Willows on I-5 Northbound when the driver of Ford F-350 fell asleep and drifted onto the right hand shoulder.

The truck was pulling a trailer that side swiped the Hyundai Elantra CHP had stopped. The impact caused the Elantra to slide sideways and hit CHP officer Joe Stokes.

The officer was transported to the Glenn Medical Center Hospital after complaining of lower back pain. He was treated for minor injuries and released.

There were no other injuries.
