A California Highway Patrol officer suffered minor injuries Saturday after being involved in a crash on Highway 70 near Highway 191.

The officer was responding to a crash south of the Plumas County line in the Feather River Canyon when the accident happened.

According to the CHP, as the officers rushed to the accident scene, the driver of a Ford sedan, yielded to the first patrol car, but did not realize a second patrol car was behind the first and moved into its path. The officer tried to swerve and avoid the collision, but was unable to do so.

Both the officer and the driver of the Ford, 70-year-old Magalia resident John Silva, were treated and released from Oroville Medical Center.

Investigators say everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, and they do not believe, drugs, alcohol, or cell phone usage played a role in the crash.
