It was a beautiful sunny day at Bidwell Park's Sycamore Pool. Temperatures hovered in the high 50's, but the water was a different story....a brisk 37 degrees.
Still, the crowd seems to grow every year for this event. People of all ages looking for their first adrenaline rush of the New Year.
From serious swimmers to those a little less serious, the wait was soon over and the countdown was on.
Most of these fearless freestylers were in the water for less than a minute, but it was enough to get their attention.
The water level was much lower than usual for this year's polar bear swim, but that didn't keep smiles off the faces of most everyone who jumped in.
And no doubt many more will come out next year no matter what the weather to take part in what has become a popular community event.
The chilly Chico tradition has been going on for more than 30 years.
