Chico, Calif - Organizations across Chico are joining forces to help make prom a night special for students.

Youth for Change is hosting the 12th annual "Prom Project" this Saturday, a day when students in Butte County can get free prom attire.

Each year, hundreds of students come through to choose from new or lightly used prom dresses, suits, tuxedos, jewelry, shoes and makeup.

Saturday's event also includes educational tables including drug and alcohol awareness, healthy relationship practices and more. For each table visited, students receive a raffle ticket to win various items donated by Chico businesses.

Businesses including Tres Hombres and 5th Street Grill have donated dinner gift certificates, Marinello School of Beauty has donated free undos, and nail salons, manicures.

"Prom can be really expensive but it's also a milestone in teenagers' lives, a mark of transition into adulthood," said Emily Bateman, Youth for Change. "So we like to make sure everyone has the opportunity to go."

The project is Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m at 130 West 6th Street in downtown Chico. Up to 150 students are expected and parents are welcome.

Youth for Change is still accepting donations, if you would like to help, you can drop off donations at 130 West 6th Street. They are accepting: New and gently used dresses, suits, tuxedos, tuxedo rentals, men's and women's dress shoes, accessories and monetary donations from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. weekdays.
