Members of The Chico Women's Club will celebrate their 101st birthday at the club onthird street this Sunday, September 21st from 3-5 p.m.
The Chico Women's Club began in 1913 as th Chico Art Club. The founding members included Annie Bidwell and Margaret March, the first president.
Meetings were held in members' homes until they built the present clubhouse in 1933. By the 1960's the name changed to the Chico women's Club, which worked to help create Caper Acres and restore Bidwell Mansion in the 1970's. They also host the mansion's Holiday Open House.
Over the past 100 plus years the Club's goals have expanded from self-enrichment, to community service and a focus on national and global concerns.
Sunday's birthday celebration is free and open to the public. Membership to the Chico Women's Club is just $35 per year. It is located at 592 East Third Street. For more information call (530) 321-4246.
