Native Chicoan Mollie McCarthy-Openshaw is about to embark on the journey of a lifetime. The 52 year old creator of "Moodswing Wines" is leaving next week on a journey to Mallorca, Spain where she will take place in a 400 mile bicycle ride with six other women. They will explore food, wine, beaches and culture along the way.
All of the ladies are perimenopausal or menopausal, and the journey is expected to improve their health and lifestyles. None of the women are professional athletes, and McCarthy-Openshaw admits she rarely bicycles and when she does, it's only for fun. At least until now. With help from North Rim Adventure Sports and Angelo at Whole Body Fitness, Mollie has equipped her self with a road bike and adapted her diet and excercise to prepare for her upcoming adventure. She quips, "I may be the oldest one, but I'm not going to be the fattest!"
Mollie has already lost 45 pounds and she's fired-up about the road ahead. This single mother of two is a Chico High School Graduate. She only recently launched "Mood Swing Wines" ... with fun titles like "Covers Off Chardonnay" and a soon to be released Barbera called "I Can't Barbera it any more".
She also hosts an online podcast called "The Estrogen Lounge" ... where interviewees enjoy sipping wine and sharing menopause related stories. As you can imagine, there is a lot of humor involved.
A chance meeting of the producer of the soon-to-be reality show "Life Matters" at a Kurt Russell Wine Dinner led to the opportunity. Dr. Michelle Gordon is one of the participants, and the project will show how despite the memory loss, fatigue, joint pain and thickening midlines that can accompany "shifting" hormones ... life is just begging, so why not have fun with it?
QOA entertainment will be releasing the show next July. Details on which channel will carry it have yet to be finalized so stay tuned. You can follow Life Matters on Facebook, and Moodswing Wines at www.moodswingwines.com.
