The Third Assembly District Woman of the Year award goes to a Chico woman known for her community service.

Peggy Mead is being recognized for her volunteer efforts with a number of organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, The House of Hope and The Jesus Center. She says the work she does gives her a sense of pride. Assemblyman James Gallagher says her hardwork and dedication are inspiring as she goes above and beyond to help people and improve their lives.

Mead says, "He said 'I need to make sure that you're going to be in Sacramento on March 14th because I've named you assembly district three woman of the year' and I wanted to cry. It was really hard to speak."

Mead is the executive director of the Chico Association of Realtors. She will be recognized this Friday at 5pm at Nash's Restaurant in Chico and then will receive her award on the assembly floor at the State Capital on Monday, March 14th.
