Chico police have arrested a suspect in connection with a Monday morning carjacking, but say the man’s accomplice is still on the loose.

Police were called to the area of Madrone Avenue and Vallambrosa Avenue around 8:20 a.m. after a woman was carjacked in her driveway as she prepared to go to work.

A Chico Fire engine was in the area and observed the incident take place. Firefighters were able to describe a silver Honda believed to have been involved.

The stolen Subaru was spotted by a California Highway Patrol officer behind the Boot Barn on Esplanade around 8:30 a.m. Chico police responded to the area, questioned witnesses and found the man who had been driving the Subaru was inside Jack in the Box across the street.

Officers found 30-year-old Barry Xaysana in the restaurant’s bathroom and took him into custody.

A search for the 2012 Honda Accord, license number 7ABV895, and a blonde female is ongoing.

The victim, Pamela Moline, says she suffered a few small cuts and bruises, but is otherwise okay. Moline tells Action News Now she’s grateful the firefighters were nearby and so quick to come to her aid.
